ROCKWOOL®, also known as Stonewool, is specialised high density insulation for thermal, sound proofing, high heat, and fire rated solutions. It is comprised of natural stone, basalt, anorthosite, and carbonates along with a generous amount of recycled materials (28%) which makes it both sustainable and health safe.
The early stages of the manufacturing process are somewhat like the way lava is made naturally in volcanos. The rocks are melted in a cupola (furnace) then spun into fibres and processed in different ways to produce a range of products. ROCKWOOL® in its lifetime (more than 50 years) can save more than 100 times the energy used for its production.
Although it does provide very good thermal insulation it is widely used for its excellent passive fire resistance, acoustic benefits and moisture repellent properties. Rockwool does not retain any moisture - it either repels or, allows water vapour to easily pass through it.
Due to the high density of the product it is mostly available pre-cut into Batts, with some selected products in roll form.
